Kahmann Gallery proudly Presents George Mayer

With great pride we introduce George Mayer. George Mayer's work transcends time and place, with figures symbolizing the psyche and soul. His photography delves into the unconscious, exploring oppositions like light and shadow, soul and body, and life and death—echoing Yin-Yang philosophy. Inspired by Jung’s concept of the anima, Mayer’s portraits reflect emotional depth and the dialogue between masculine and feminine energies.

Using techniques like meditation and lucid dreaming, Mayer transforms chaotic visions into minimalist compositions. His art navigates the fears of the unknown, guiding viewers toward inner balance and light.

Kahmann Gallery introduces Tomoko Nagakawa

We are please to introduce Tomoko Nagakawa at the Kahmann Gallery. Based in Buckinghamshire, UK, and born in Tokyo, Japan , Tomoko Nagakawa is a photographer whose work transcends traditional boundaries of visual art.

Nagakawa employs printing techniques on carefully chosen surfaces to create minimalist yet imaginatively expansive objects. These works act as evocative starting points, inviting open interpretation and introspection. Her practice delves into awakening the unconscious from silence, encouraging a profound sense of connection to the invisible.

Kahmann Gallery expands its family with J.D.

J.D.’s photographs are a blend of documentary and fiction, reflecting his unique approach to transforming ambivalent emotions into a visual landscape of his inner world. His images are personal, authentic, and dreamlike, distinguished by abstraction, vibrant color, and meticulously balanced compositions. The photographs suggest a narrative but deliberately withhold definitive answers. J.D. creates evocative works that invite viewers to form their own interpretations of the story. His photography explores themes such as solitude, alienation, disconnection, fear, consumerism, and the overstimulation caused by media in contemporary society.

Currently, J.D. is working on a photography project that serves as a visual exploration of the human struggle in a world that seems increasingly complex, fast-paced, and constrained.

Sarah ketelaars joins the gallery

Sarah Ketelaars is an artist living and working in Brighton, UK. Her current practice looks at her family history, examining themes of cultural inheritance, identity and intergenerational trauma. Of her most recent project 'The 544’, Sarah says: 'This ongoing project is a memorial to 544 psychiatric patients murdered by the Nazis in 1941 in Latvia. My grandmother was working at the hospital from where the patients were taken. The figurative images are all cyanotypes. Eventually there will be one for each man, woman and child killed.

The project is primarily intended as a memorial. Not knowing anything about the the identities of the dead, I have tried to imagine each one as a unique, precious being, and give each back a little of the character stripped from them when they were murdered and reduced by history to a number on a list of nameless victims.'

David Ballam at Gallery mai amsterdam

In collaboration with the Kahmann Gallery, David Ballam presents his latest project, The Cattle of Kings in Gallery MAI in the centre of Amsterdam. Captured in South Sudan, this series beautifully conveys the essence of the Mandari people's unique landscape and culture. For the Mandari, their Ankole-Watusi cattle are not only the foundation of their social structure but also the central axis of their cultural identity.

Born and educated in Johannesburg, South Africa, David Ballam returned to his hometown after several years in the commercial photography industry to refocus on his Fine Art roots. Drawn by new faces, places, cultures, and traditions, David is deeply inspired by the opportunity to travel and explore the diverse landscapes of Africa.

The MAI Gallery is located at Geldersekade 30, Amsterdam.

new work by Joep hijwegen

Joep Hijwegen’s latest work in Rotterdam and Barcelona highlights his talent for transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Known for vibrant lights cutting through darkness and evocative reflections in rainy cityscapes, his photography exudes nostalgia, love, mystery, and terror.

For Hijwegen, color is emotional, with dual meanings—blue symbolizes peace or depression, red conveys love or danger. By embedding colors in specific contexts, he creates images that express the inexpressible.

Described as Existential Street Photography, his deeply personal work began as a response to feeling alienated in modern life. His lens captures fleeting beauty and frustration with life’s elusiveness.

Hijwegen’s focus shifted from preserving moments to creating them, reflecting his passion for finding meaning and beauty in randomness. Each frame invites us to see not just the world, but how it feels.

Nina Hauben now represented by Kahmann Gallery

Kahmann Gallery is proud to announce our newest artist, Nina Hauben. Hauben (b. 1996) is a talented artist based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, celebrated for her distinctive photography that bridges fashion and pure art. Her work creates a harmonious interplay where the two not only coexist but also elevate one another.

Hauben’s art serves as a personal visual translation of emotions, transforming her inner thoughts into a unique language of self-discovery. Each series unfolds in phases, capturing subtle shifts in perspective and offering viewers a reflective space to explore.

What distinguishes Hauben is her ability to integrate fashion into her narrative as more than adornment—it becomes an essential part of her storytelling. Through her lens, fashion transforms into poetry, while art mirrors the shifting landscape of human emotion and experience.

Paulien Dubelaar signs with Kahmann Gallery

We are pleased to announce that Paulien Dubelaar (1974) joins our LAB. Paulien deals with existential questions, such as: the meaning of life and death, how can we live a significant existence, who are we as humans? Where answers are not readily available, she tries to explore with her images: in greatness and insignificance, invulnerability and transience, in stillness and motion, in darkness and in light. She feels connected to the ideas of existentialist philosophers and uses them as inspiration in her photographic oeuvre. Paulien graduated from the Amsterdam Photo Academy in December 2023.

Gallery Fair Practice Code
